Remember my name because one day everybody will say that I was the sister who did not lack Brother, my name is Antigone. José Watanabe.
was JOSÉ WATANABE, poet, editor of books for children and adolescents and writer of film and theater, manager of the state television channel during the Transitional Government of Peru (2000-2001) and a fan the music in all its variants. Japanese father and mother Andean, was born in 1946 in Laredo, a town in the department of La Libertad, northern Peru. At 24 he earned, along with Antonio Cillóniz, the first prize 'Young Poet of Peru', organized by the magazine "Cuadernos quarterly poetry ', an award they received before the famous poet Javier Heraud and Cesar Calvo. Among his acquaintances, Watanabe noted for his vitality, his concern for social inequalities in their country, their simplicity and their habit of working on their poems at night. Watanabe poetic books include: Family Album (Lima, 1971) The spindle a word (Lima, 1989) Natural history (Lima, 1994) Path trough the canefields (London, 1997, an anthology of his poetry) Things of the body (Lima, 1999) Antigone (Lima, 2000, free version of the tragedy Sophocles) The custodian of ice (Bogotá, 2000, an anthology of his poetry) dwelt among us (Lima, 2002) In praise of restraint (Renaissance, Seville, 2003, anthology) What is (Monte Avila, Caracas, 2005, anthology) The stone winged (Pre-Textos, Valencia, 2005-Peisa, Lima, 2005) behind the fog Banderas (Pre-Textos, Valencia, 2006-Peisa, Lima, 2006) was also in film screenwriter Watanabe 'Maruja in Hell '(1983) and "The City and the Dogs' (1985), both films by Francisco Lombardi, 'Eye Dog" (1981) and' Alias \u200b\u200bLa Gringa '(1991), by Alberto Durant,' Go, runs, flies' (1993) by Augusto Tamayo and 'Feature to Death' (1992), Danny Gavin. As a playwright, was internationally renowned for its free version of 'Antigone' by Sophocles, originally staged by the group in 2000 Yuyachkani. In recent years, Watanabe published children's stories as 'The red pencil', 'Melchior, the weaver' and 'Andrew Nuez lost in the fruit', with illustrations by Piero Quijano and Cesar Ramos. Recently, the editorial Peisa launched 'Don Thomas and mice' with images of the artist Eduardo Tokeshi. José Watanabe died unexpectedly to us all, in Lima on April 25, 2007.
Notes to the poet José Watanabe
remember, I sent a copy of "Antigone" in a beautiful edition. The page contained a warm shelter of his own dedication written handwriting, as they say Rocío Silva and Alonso Cueto, contained the art of writing dedications was not one of their lower qualities, we would never have seen as sober and poignant dedications as theirs. Antigone came to me by two friends actors and English teachers (Ruben and Eva Egido Vejabalban Lewis) who were to perform at the Festival del Teatro San Martín de Caracas. The melancholy that had the fog in the morning seemed to be an omen, Joseph Watanabe liked roam the fields of nostalgia and thick fog in Lima. That was what attracted our streams. I had read the text, but come from the author's own hand seemed was gaining strength. Poetry as a torrent, the drama with the highest value of the old, the sacred, of the tragic. The strength of the text reminded me of a young Japanese poet, who despite his young age had the ability to make us feel like an ancient writer. Watanabe has that inner strength and the best way was adopted to express the poetic word. Did not know him personally but only through a couple of phone calls here in Caracas, and as many references to Peru to obtain permission from the assembly of this beautiful piece, other than that some emails suspended in time for those who do not will never answer, at least in this earthly life. José Watanabe goes with us to the test wonderfully transcends his presence and from the force of his text Antigone. I want to make a brief pause to say that Michelle Chirif his traveling companion and poetry, has also been shown so gentle and splendid as the poet and has opened its doors to complete delivery we have come to this show. Represent one soul, one poetic way of driving a single field where tillage.
I was surprised one day while in Bolivia, the poet's physical departure, I discovered in the silence of our relationship, dating only for short letters, unfinished letters back and forth. Recognized that his departure was not such, but rather remain in the thick mist that tilted the city that night and to come, for all that I have lined Antigone in the way of those silences that are the amplitude and sacred magic of this world around us. Antigone represents this force, this light, so our Antigone is loaded into the thick silence of night.
